sax I think you might be the winner
Just need to hear Gorka say it and I'll properly MELT !
Loving Ed & Katya again. It's true they are an escape from the clusterf*ck that it the world at the moment and I intend to make the most of them. To me, Ed's like a fitter version of Mark Benton and doing even more mental routines!

Re: It Takes Two 2016
Bit of a random comment but watching them tonight I feel that Ed would make a great tap dancer...........
Caught up on two nights ITT tonight - I was pleased that KH made some (ever so diplomatic) comments about 'that' Argentine Tango - whilst the judges are gushing at the moment the last thing Oti wants is to become a sort of Artem and start drawing criticism for not sticking to the character of a dance - I liked the way that KH suggested that it was ok to do sometimes but not too much!! However in the murky world of who has the final say on music on SCD I realize that Oti may not have chosen the track. I hope this week that we get a Charleston from them- not the West End version.
Really enjoyed the item on the Blackpool dance contest with Ian tonight - I love these segments. Really enjoying ITT better this year. Ian was spot on when he mentioned Gregs feet - the routine looked a bit skippy but I'm sure he will cover the floor well. Claudia looked like she was struggling a bit - I hope she can capture the bouncy nature of the jive and that AJ doesn't overdo it so that it becomes like their Samba.
I do think that Ore's rumba from last week was rather good - seeing it again confirmed it.

Re: It Takes Two 2016
I thought the storyline of the AT could have been different whilst holding onto the flavour of the dance. For example, at the beginning, Danny could picked up an envelope with a photo of Oti & someone else in, but then played along with Oti in a smoother AT, before putting a twist in at the end like showing Oti the photo before flouncing off. I get a bit bored by the aggression that seems to be taking over for passion in some of the dances like AT and Rumba. I agree with Karen that the man leads in the AT with that exagerated chest-to-chest A frame, and the woman follows. It was too frantic and fast for me. Like watching a domestic using legs as weapons. The Spanish style Motown music didn't help. I think something like the original tune but slowed down could have worked.mauveangel09 wrote:KH (ever so diplomatic) comments about 'that' Argentine Tango - whilst the judges are gushing at the moment the last thing Oti wants is to become a sort of Artem and start drawing criticism for not sticking to the character of a dance - I liked the way that KH suggested that it was ok to do sometimes but not too much!! I also worry that AJ will be throwing everything in including the kitchen sink at the expense of technique.

Very true B4P - I think it applies to the Paso too. Great comments with which I concur.
Did anyone else think that Ore and Joanne's VW looked impossibly fast in the training clip tonight?

Re: It Takes Two
This is a late post about the Friday night show I know - but I really enjoyed the CRH interview - it was hilarious particularly when he answered the dancers questions - did anyone else see it? It was refreshingly honest.
I loved it when he said that he had to 'rein himself in' when judging the SCD Children in Need Special and this made me chuckle when I watched the segment on the 'Children in Need' show.

Re: It Takes Two 2016
I only caught bits of this week's ITT mauve, had dinner on the go, but sounds like it's worth me catching up on what C.raig had to say! I did catch the slightly awkward exchange between Gethin and the Judge - I think Rinder was trying to be funny but came off a bit sulky! At least he's a bit of a personality though.
I do agree with you and B4 about some of the dances becoming too angry-looking. The AT is supposed to be more understated (I'll never forget Rachel Stevens' who I think I nailed it more than anybody else). I feel Louise was too far the other way with her Paso last night though - I just think she finds it difficult to dance from within - she's thinking too hard about what her face should look like instead of feeling the dance and letting the expression on her face form naturally. The clappy bit looked like she was applauding a 4 yr old for eating their greens!

Re: It Takes Two 2016
Goodness, don't think I've ever seen Nat quite so intense with any of her partners! At times it felt I was intruding on something private Interesting that she made that little speech about the support of their respective partners - I wonder if she's seen the "they seem very close" comments about her and Greg! Speaking of Greg, what a gent defending Ed like that. Looking at his montage he really did improve.
Interesting just how young the pros were when they got into dancing and what clear memories they have of their young selves. I can't remember much about when I was 5!

Re: It Takes Two 2016
I agree sid. Rachel Stevens did a cracking AT and her outfit was classy & sophisticated, not the usual bordello label. I re-watched it recently and thought it was so under marked! What did the judges want? Blood? Were they scared of being acused of favouritism to Vincent's partner on his specialised dance? Haven't noticed the judges being so worried about the other Pros fortes.
Good on Greg for standing up for Ed (although I did wonder if Zoe was getting an earful from the producers, as she seemed to be trying to shut him up). It's about time the judges gave Ed some positive feedback instead of pouting because he doesn't fit their comedy role despite their attempts with silly songs and costumes. I preferred Ed's Jive to Claudia's this week. He's great on ITT. Doesn't winge, cry, beg for a higher mark or moan about the training or judges. He just shuts up and puts up.

Re: It Takes Two 2016
Well said B4! Karen again, in CC, praising most the others (and downplaying problems with Claudia's Jive - read Brendan's review, it was NOT a good dance) while pointing out Ed looked tired. No real comment on the things he did well.
B4 - Rachel's AT was a real tour de force and the black number she wore is one of my all-time favourite Strictly dresses. I can't believe C.raig never gave her a 10 for that dance (or the Rumba). I don't think we've ever seen either bettered.
Sorry but still can't get over the gushing over Claudia's Jive - it wasn't just about the mistake, it was the whole thing that looked badly executed. C.raig nearly gave it a 10??? I nearly gave it less than Ed's!

Think KH could be trying keep viwere sweet sometimes but the bosses sweet all of the time! Mainly due to that Empty Judges chair coming up...
Dance off should be voted on that second dance not previous weeks or who they are. Shame, shame Greg should have gone through........
Danny boring me silly and Louise cannot recall a single dance.... Rachel mmmm watched the dance but not a ten sorry Sid from me x

Glad people are agreeing about Claudia's jive. I like her attitude a lot and she's a good dancer, but after that jive I said to my wife "That was far from good. It looked rgged and she lost timing and struggled to get it back". It wasn't a criticism as anyone can make an error, even the pros, but when being judged in competition faults are supposed to be punished no given high marks because of favouritism. It cost Greg at least a week.

Re: It Takes Two 2016
Yes I think Claudia was a much better dancer overall than Greg but the Jive was by far her worst and the Quickstep his best, and he out-danced her on this occasion and that's what they're supposed to base their decision on. It's one of the reasons why I think the Dance Off should be scrapped - too many obviously wrong decisions like this happening to make me have any faith in it.

Yes this is an interesting point Sax - I note that she is one of the judges for the SCD tour this year.
I usually enjoy KH but felt last night that when she glossed over Claudia and AJ she was almost giving off the vibe that she could have said more but didn't - at the end of the critique she did mutter something about C laudia could have a problem with something -but I didn't catch what it was unfortunately as she swiftly moved on to another couple.
Before we put last weekend to bed I wanted to give a shout out to Neil who seemed to work hard during the show - he was to be seen as one of the backing dancers in almost every routine in addition to appearing in the group He is. And we obey him.. I would like to see him with a celeb partner next year - I keep thinking he would have made a good (and more mature) match with Claudia.

Mauve yes Neil would be a great pro dancer for scd! He does seem everywhere and very down to earth too almost similar to our first glimpse of Kevin from Grimsby!

Re: It Takes Two 2016
I'm loving Neil trying out all these different dances, even though tonight's almost killed him
And good on Ian for raising his head above the parapet and calling out Claudia's Jive for what it was - bad.

Can I please join in with this. I've been singing this song from way, way back, especially in dances like the tango and paso. Anger at a bull? Are we kidding, arrogance, yes by all means, anger, no way. And the tango is, and always has been a dance of ever unfulfilled lust with the guy chasing the woman (unsuccessfuly) yet we have long passages where the male never looks at the woman and seems to be rehearsing for the American Marines marching display team. As Peter Kay would say "What's all that about?". It's even dafter in a rumba, but also a well known and stated fact that male contestants get embarrassed by the concept and are ever aware of the wife/girlfiend watching so don't bare the soul in dance, so to speak. Women, okay, and male pros know how to handle the dance, but men are basically afraid of it. Anger has no part in it at all.
Amen...(-:

Re: It Takes Two 2016
I thought Neil was great doing his Cossack dance routine on ITT tonight. The man's super fit but still looked shattered. It'll be interesting to see what his choreography's like if Katya and him get invited back next year. They both seem to have fitted in well to the team.

Omg the Cossack dancing looked so difficult! Neil did well but he looked stumped at the experts. I'd live to see him nurture a celeb next year! Please give him a trier too

I think the longer Friday night ITT show is settling down well. I like the inclusion of some bands at the end of the show. I'd like to see more of the Strictly Band, but I guess Friday is their key night for working out the music for the main show

I missed Friday's ITT, but I thought Zoe said on another show that Mathew Cutler would be on ITT with ?Erin this week. I hope so. I miss Mathew and have just spent a pleasant hour looking back through the Pro dances and Mathew's celeb dances on youtube

The series they dropped Mathew and Ian was when the show started to move in a direction I was less keen on. They were both excellent pros. You might not have imagined on paper that Mathew with his quieter nature and Alesha with her more vivacious personality would gel so well but they had one of the best chemistries the show's seen.
