Re: SCD 2017 Which Dance & Music Choices This Week?
Some of the Halloween links are tenuous to say the least.
My issue with Halloween night is that none of the performances really lend themselves to being repeated because the hair and make-up and staging is all so OTT thereby making it impossible to recreate in the final. So even if we get an outstanding, final-worthy performance, chances are we won't get to see it again.

Yes - definitely got a point there S id - now correct me if I'm wrong but hadn't K ristina and Jason planned to their Bewitched Foxtrot in the final? But then they got eliminated at the mid-way point? I just remember something............

Re: SCD 2017 Which Dance & Music Choices This Week?
Like you have all said, I'm not over-enamoured with the music choices for Halloween. Every year I get grumpy about it and then I have to eat my words as the production does seem to come together...but I think it's becoming a victim of its own success for the producers- it obviously pulls in the ratings so they're not going to stop it, even though it's a few years past its sell by date now. It has become become part of the structure of the series' landmarks, movie week, Halloween Blackpool, FINAL! ( is there a musicals week in there now too or has that morphed in with movie week?)
Maybe they should do a theme week of back to basics and no props - wouldn't that be something?

Think you might be right there mauve but apart from certain performances (Brendan & Michelle spring to mind!), I don't remember them going to town as much with make-up and costumes in the first couple of Halloween-themed weeks which made it more possible to reprise the dances later. Pretty sure it's what stopped Frankie and Kevin repeating their Tango (altho personally I preferred their Paso anyway).

Re: SCD 2017 Which Dance & Music Choices This Week?
2 problems for me. Both Salsas
'Sun Comes Up' is NOT salsa music in anyway, shape, or form, and 'Turn Me On isn't much better.
Why can't we have decent SALSA music?
I'm changing the links to the 'You turn Me On' youtube track as they're not the official ones apparently, and quite frankly the first link is unsuitable for a family audience.
Turn Me On by Kevin Lyttle & Spragga Benz

Thanks for all the info B4...I find myself referring back to it a lot! Not sure I'm any the wiser who the finalists will be although the two As look like they have a very nice run in. On paper Joe's looks a bit trickier depending on which one Katya drops. Still want him to get there, and Gemma but as Sid pointed out its looking nicely set for Dennie too. Oohs the excitement!

Re: Strictly 2017 Which Dance and Music Choices this week
I also thought Joe's Charleston looked good - I think if I was Katya I would drop the rumba (!)
As long as Debbie is not 'too light' with the Tango I think she'll be ok and I think she has a good clutch of dances left - I think if I was Gio I would drop the Samba for her!
Thank you for the list B4P - very interesting. Loads of them have to do the American Smooth - which is no bad thing as I think this dance is always better in the latter half of the contest when the celebs have more skills and confidence. I think it is a shame when they are made to do it early - most of them that do it early seem to be in the group that are quickly gone!

You're welcome mauve. I think someone must have listened to our comments last year about leaving the Argentine Tango for later weeks. It's also good to have some later American Smooths too. It really gives the contestants a chance to really showcase what they've learned.mauveangel09 wrote:Thank you for the list B4P - very interesting. Re: SCD 2017 Which Dance & Music Choices This Week?
I'm happy.
Love the Gotan Project, and don't care if they do the Hokey-Cokey to it, but I'm looking forward to seeing what Gorka's got lined up.
Who could fail to like Layla. Still sounds fresh even though it's from 1970.
Brenda Lee, Bobby Darin and Adele, all sound good to me.
Just watched the youtube clip to Debbaaaay's salsa music and there's 2 brilliant '70's style guys who must have escaped from the Village People doing a few knee bounces and cha-cha steps (obviously trained by Cr aig!) I can't hear a salsa rhythm but since when did that matter? I heard Frankie Valli singing this in Birmingham a couple of months ago and it was stunning.
Classic ballroom music for the King of Swing Du Beke. Wouldn't it be great if they were in full ballroom outfits?
Not sure about Katy Perry for a Tango.
Ironic Alijaz has the VW the week after Janette.

Re: SCD 2017 Which Dance & Music Choices This Week?
Thanks B4.
I'm on board for most of these. I think a good old cockney knees up to the Lambeth Walk will go down well and I'm expecting Debbie's number to be camp as tits.
'Cited bout our first AT and to that music. I'm sure Alex will do it justice.
I just can't with Firework though. Not only do I struggle to marry it with Tango but it's so overplayed and ghastly.

I stopped and thought about that one Sid. Has a lovely rolling swing to it, but needs to be kicked up a bit for a Charlston IMO. Love the Robert Linday and Emma Thompson version on Youtube,

but I can't ever manage to block out the images of the German Army doing The Lambeth Walk to the best propaganda mickey take ever..

I watched the Robert & Emma clip. I think he won an award for that show. I agree it'll need speeding up a bit for a Charleston but I'm sure the band will oblige. I was a bit selfish for picking the youtube clip with lots of photos of Lambeth. My great grandmother was born there, and I thought it would be a quick way of finding some Lambeth photos.

Re: SCD 2017 Which Dance & Music Choices This Week?
Not seeing Lambeth Walk as Charl-ess-ton.... The clue is in the title - 'walk'. Even speeded up as you've all suggested I am puzzled as to how it will fit. But as ever, wot do I know?
Adele.... Like Coldplay, should never be played in public. Particulary this song, which is a sinister creepfest about stalking an ex *shudder*
Fireworks? Surely they have missed the boat and that should have been given to Debbie fo rher Tango on Saturday which was practically Bonfire Night? Not that it is a Tango-esque tune mind....
Gorka has a corker... of a tune. I am hoping this may give me the first goosebumps of the series...
Gemma and Aljaz have also lucked out. Let's hope Aljaz will go for tails and Gemma a nice, swirlsome dress wiht layers of gauzy fabric and godets and a bit of sparkle on the bodice. In a nice colour (doesn't have to be sugared almond colours, as I know Gemma doesn't like those. Understandably. But nice.) And NO beehive a la Brenda Lee or Dusty Springfield! Remember - you don't have to look like the singer to dance to the tune.... Maybe no back story either... You know, man and women just dance together in a ballroom to a nice song shocker...

I am fully expecting a sizzling AT from these two. I think it may just be the show stealer this week. Wonder if they'll get the pimp slot?D&P wrote:Gorka has a corker..of a tune.I'm hoping this may give me the first goosebumps of the series
Pretty good music choices this week I'm thinking, fireworks aside. Let's hope the wardrobe and production teams do them justice. Here's hoping
