I think a few people are tired of Halloween. It seems the same-old-same-old.

Maybe they keep it in for the younger viewers, but I agree the music dosn't usually suit the dance . They won't change the dire music, although this year there's one or two newbies UNLESS - hold the front page, lightbulb moment.....

What if they did the Couples Choice dances just on Halloween next year and have the perfect excuse to kill (mwwwwhaahaaaa) a few birds (not the females!) with one stone? They could exorcise the tired Halloween format, everyone could have one week break from the ballroom and latin, and each couple could be judged more fairly on the couple's choices. Surely by next year, guest choreographers wouldn't be needed for the couple's choices? Possible or not?
LOVE this idea B4! You should be working for the B.eeb....

Don't be silly B4p. What you say belongs in the "makes sense" class and thus has no place in Strictly. There are already a whole plethora of departments to maintain including:

The Official Twitterati, who spend all their time er, Twittering...
The Good Ideas department ( presently calling for redundancies actually, as they have run out of content)
The "Who says we can't" department (incorporating the "Do you know who I am?" area..this contains five producers, four directors and thirty six managers all asking each other that question all day long. Also contains 12 delegators who have their offices above "The Ritz" wine bar)
The "Can't tell a waltz from a Tango" department who choose the music. (probably not Dave Arch's favourites and named by him)
The "Middle Earth and Undead Department" ( short contract employees who are never actually seen at all and live in wooden boxes in the Beeb basements...apparently)
The "Frocks and socks Department"...incorporating tan, glitter and eye-lash areas but not including presenters wardrobes.
"Presenters show gear department" This is a large warehouse in Elstree with two pantechnicons for the annual Blackpool visit and solely for person presenters. Once worn, outfits are delivered to Buckingham Palace Tradeperson's entrance.
"The judges dress and rest area" (sometimes known as Fred and Albert's restaurant and wine bar)
The "Let's make another vid" department whose identities remain annonymous and all have to sign the official secrets act

and many others including some dance practise room attendants who make tea and coffee in between filming .......... lol!

Appropo of nothing in particular (I am awaiting the v..err...y ve...rrr...yy... slowwwwwwwwww download of last night's Halloween nightmare so can't comment yet on any of the dancing).....

But is just me who finds themselves hearing songs in the radio (any song; all songs) and seeing in their minds eye a waltz, a chax3, a foxtrot, a salsa or a tango etc?  It's pretty much every song at the moment, though obviously some just don't work for anything... (So obviously these were the ones they had to choose for this weeks Halloween theme... Wink

In case you were wondering, I am currently enjoying an imaginary couple twirling a lovely VW to Stereophonics' Song for the Summer. which is serenading me as I type....

Can't stand that Alicia Key's song. Boring as hell. It makes me want to jump off that Empire State Building. Mind you, with all the tiers near the top, even jumping off would take forever. Not keen on Street Dance either, so won't be bothered with any of that unless Kev can come up with something to hook me in.

Based on the music and dances, I'll put Lauren and Dr Ranj down for the Dance Off this week.

Thanks B4!
Agree that based on the music choices Lauren and Ranj in danger, whilst Graeme and Kate should be safe. There's no way Oti will let G do a rubbish waltz and it's such a classic sentimental tune I think it will be a crowd pleaser( but I think Charles could be in danger as theirs could be a bit boring). And as the lovely Vinthent is choreographer for the AT, it's gonna look good even if it's not top of the leaderboard stuff, with that fab music to boot. I'm a traditionalist when it comes to AT- you don't mess with the music.

Actually I like the New York State of mind, but I'm a bit worried about the dance, although I'm sure Kev will have got some brilliant smoke and mirrors up his sleeve

I wouldn't go quite that far, but it is an awful caterwaul of a song.

Not a fan of Kev Fro Grim's choreography, so I can't see this being redeemed in any way.

I am very worried that the song by my absolute icon and one of my favourite bands fo all time - Call Me by Blondie - is going to be murdered and I am never going tobe able to listen to it again No

Not a fan of the Last Waltz either. A dirgey waltz rather than a lilting waltz.

And that Pompeii one has been done to death. Can we have a nice Spanish guitar tune for once?

First instincts are that Kate and Graeme should be happy with what they have this week. Dr Ranj will struggle and it will be interesting to see how Charles copes as he seems more at home with dances with greater pace, beat and rhythm. Lauren may well struggle to as she strikes me as a bit cumbersome.

Post  mauveangel09 on Fri Nov 02, 2018 7:52 pm

Yes I second that one diamonds about Blondie ..…………………. Very Happy A favourite of mine by one of my icons too!

I think there's a few good ones in there and a few not so good...………….I can feel a 'post theme week' coming on...………
However, I think I will have a lump in my throat tomorrow night when I hear the 'Last Waltz' by Engelbert.  During this year I lost my Mum - we had a shared interest in dance. Ten years ago when she was fitter we went to the Strictly tour at the O2 arena   (and saw Ian and Zoe doing the Tango!) and in later years we went to see A nton and E rin a few times at her local theatre (where I started to see A nton in a different light).  'The Last Waltz' was a favourite of hers but I rejected it for one of the tracks at the funeral because it seemed a bit 'literal' and I knew I would get too upset - we wanted the funeral to be a celebration of her life  (she was 94 - and the funeral was the event that we wanted it to be)  so I chose 'Spanish Eyes' by Engelbert instead., which she also liked.  Even though it wasn't the original Al Martinez version - Engelbert did a good version with some nice Spanish guitar twanging in it.

So tomorrow seems a good time to raise a glass to her when the track comes on the show...……… I do hope Graeme and Oti can do it proud...………… and I will remember singing and dancing to it with her when I was a kid and hearing her saying   '1-2-3   1-2-3'     Very Happy  Very Happy

At first look I'd say Graeme may be in peril this week. With a Salsa I worry that it will bring out dad dancing in him. Charles with Charleston which is quite an easy dance to make an impression with and Kate should be suited to her dance.

Yes I agree about Graeme CC (sadly) and also about Kate. 'Moon River' - well I know it's been done more than a few times on SCD over the years but I do love it and another one that has very personal connections for me. Last week it was Mum and this week it is Dad - my Dad really loved this one and I remember watching the 'Andy Williams Show' with him when I was little - Andy Williams used to sing it and I had the Andy Williams version at my wedding, but the Audrey Hepburn original is sublime - very crowd pleasing for Stacey and Kevin.

I was thinking that it is funny how some years different dances seem to get emphasis. Last year it seemed as though the Charleston was being done to death - every week someone was doing it and sometimes two of them - but not so much this year whereas we seem to be seeing more sambas this series (used to be something that a lot of them dodged) and the jive seems very prominent this year - has anyone else noticed?

Graeme going for theatre and Jazz surprises me if he had any say in it. The Trolley Song is a real old standard but I'm not getting clear images in the crystal ball. A wait and see.
La Bamba is always a rebel rouser, but I'd rather have had the Los Lobos version for Charles and Karen.
Everlasting Love should be great for a Kate and Alijaz American Smooth.
Unstoppable is certainly dramatic for a Faye and Gio Paso. Could be D.O.T.N.
The rest, time will tell as ever.
River, obviously meant for contemporary dance might work well as an A.T?
