I know it's not a circus - I chose the book - remember I meant it could be more fantasy than fiction.saxonsiren wrote:Well Lucielle its not a circus!! It involves a child detective!!!So could be different.

You did choose the book true! My reply was tongue in cheek . A Red Herring I have pre conceived ideas about this book that I shall ignore & read.Took a cat named Bob back to library!Thoroughly enjoyed it! As well as Red Herring I have taken The White Queen & Dawn French's first book Dear Fatty!!

Re: Strictly Books
Finally started Night Circus yesterday .....stayed up very very late last night reading it (didn't want to put it down) will hopefully have it finished and reviewed by tomorrow. Haven't got the Mustard book from amazon yet, but will try to catch up with everyone by end of month.
Allsewn - hope you're enjoying Shardlake, you lucky thing! I loved those books, just wish he'd release a new one.

Am half way through the Red Herring/Mustard book already! Very easy to read. Have got Sovereign (CJ. Sansom) next to read before the next book choice, which I think is yours Jingle.jingle wrote:Haven't got the Mustard book from amazon yet, but will try to catch up with everyone by end of month.

Re: Strictly Books
Waited ages for Marian Keyes's comeback book: The Mystery Of Mercy Close but I'm so disappointed. 100 pages in and the plot is meandering around aimlessly and the characters are weak. Plus Marian's trademark wit is missing. I'm thinking of giving up on it altogether!

Re: Strictly Books
Ooh Sid don't give up!! It might be a different style than Marion usually writes so might take a while to sink in.
One of Mauve Binchey's books left me feeling the same way!!

I gave it one more chapter sax but it only got worse! So the book's going back to the library on Monday. Life's too short. I hope Marian can find her mojo again in her next book.
I'm now reading A Street Cat Named Bob - and it's wonderful

Re: Strictly Books
I'm doing my usual reading with Shardlake- ie fits and starts- and Its OK but I'm not raving about it- I may yet be converted though, I've not got far! Red Herring has arrived so will start that after.
Sid, how disappointing re Marion, I love her books usually, especially the dry wit. Sax, I think I will add 'Bob' to my Xmas list!

Re: Strictly Books
Hi all, given we're all likely to have lots of lovely new books to read soon shall we look at the book club with a refreshed outlook for 2013? I'd love to join in when I can, and hopefully I can get the kindle fixed!
One point though: the written word can easily unknowingly upset, so as long as our points of view are respected, it's agreed we might not all see eye to eye, let's take it as read that nobody here intends to offend yes?
Have any of you read Life of Pi? I cannot wait to see the film, it's rare for a film to be reviewed as 5 stars, especially when it's an adaptation. I need to find a showing in English, dubbed is no good(plus my Spanish is still pretty pants!)

Count me in Salsa! It's very rewarding to read something which you would've overlooked in the bookshop, and then find that you really enjoy it. On that subject, my OH has just finished Night Circus and he LOVED it! I'll have to look around for more books of that type.
As a coincidence, I bought Life of Pi only yesterday - an xmas pressie for OH (because I want to read it!)
