You are musical director for one week......
Some one jokingly suggested I choose the Strictly music. I could never do that, but if you could do it for just one week, what would you choose? Here are my choices:

Re: You are musical director for one week......
Wow Tango that's a brilliant idea for a thread
I'm not a musician so would probably get my time signatures all wrong, and my only official dance classes was as a 7yr old, BUT I know what I like and my old dance certificate says I've got natural timing and rhythm, so I shall put on my thinking cap and come back to you.
My choices will probably be an eclective mix of traditional, and off the wall craziness, a bit like me really, depending on the phase of the moon

Must be a copyright block on Bobby Darin. Can't get the link to load?

Re: You are musical director for one week......
Need to think about this, but two that need no thinking about are:
Foxtrot - Bobby Darin again - Beyond the Sea
Quickstep - Americano - but as performed by Francesco Napoli, not Lady GaGa or any of the "popped up" versions (which I think Vincent used once).
Need to have a cogitate about a few more.

Always liked it years ago till I heard Charles Trenet's La Mer.That's exquisite and one of my favourite songs. (I actually have hundreds) Even Julio's would be good.

Re: You are musical director for one week......
Some classy choices Mr T, and I expected nothing less!
I've often thought about a Viennese Waltz to Ennio Morricone's Chi Mai but don't know if the rhythm's right, could be beautiful though:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbHP9NtSnB0
And I know it's non-tradtional, modern-ish synth pop but I'd quite like to see a Tango to "Fade To Grey" by Visage (one of my favourite songs).

Lovely piece of music, haven't heard that for ages Sid. The first dance that comes to mind for me with that music is a rhumba.

Re: You are musical director for one week......
I'd love week based on period or period style music. Michael Nyman's The Heart asks Pleasure First would be one.(The theme from the Piano) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u83xIXliIXY
And Cavalleria Rusticana (Start at one minute in) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OvsVSWB4TI
And this ( a more upbeat version of Concierto Aranjuez for a dramatic paso.) Dave Arch could surely up the beat in places. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORvBwSOIkrI
And Sky's version of Toccata https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olGEi5I3Q9c
Ah, okay, it'll never happen..

All decent choices, but by choosing Ella you have just become my friend for life C.D. Likewise with the Miller's Dance. I actually bought the 45.r.p.m instrumentasl version of Isla Bonita- still have it somewhere. Only the instrumental though, as I can't stand the sight of Madonna.cellar-door wrote:Some of these are repeats (either used by SCD, perhaps DWTS or even chosen by posters here), but they are my favourites:

I saw Milos last year. He was fantastic and funny. He told us a little tale in-between each piece including how he broke his strumming nail en route to the show 'Not such a big deal for you but for me - disaster.' You could have heard a pin drop whilst he was playing, in fact he asked if anyone was there at one point, as it was so quiet and he had the lights shining in his face and couldn't see out! They put the house lights up briefly and he almost fell off his stool at the packed audience smiling at him.cellar-door wrote:Paso Doble – Danza del Molinero (“El Sombrero de Tres Picos”), by Milos Karadaglic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCKxKXo_LUo

I am SO jealous you saw him 'live'! <jk.>
I remembered looking for some classical guitar music to buy in amazon years ago, in fact shopping for birthday present by the go-to guitarist Segovia, and then the automatic amazon recommend function kicked (presumbly the fact that up-and-coming Karadaglic and Segovia shared the same record label) in after I clicked through several of Segovia's albums. So I did a youtube search and then found that he was a very, VERY exciting player. His style is more 'in your face', and judging by some 'purists' on youtube, you would have thought Milos had committed multifarious cardinal sins in the way he played trembolos, but to my classically trained ear I thought it was 'different', but different in a good way. Okay, I may not be playing the guitar myself (I play the piano), but it's clear for people with any sense to see that he's going places with his God-given talents, like Williams.
Sorry, I digressed...

I saw a female Greek guitarist called Eleftheria Kotzia in my lunch break years ago. She wore an evening gown and it was the first time I heard 'Asturias'. I saw a poster for Milos when I was booking for Fla via & Vin cent I think. I took a chance, bought a ticket then went out and bought his CD 'The Guitar'. Understated brilliance. Quietly modest. See him if he comes back.cellar-door wrote:I am SO jealous you saw him 'live'!
