Re: 2021 Weekly Dance and Music Choices
Im hoping the Musicality Director and Jukebox of awful hortors have moved on.
Id like the Pro Dancers to choose their music for their dances.
Hoping we might have a Big Band Week too

Re: 2021 Weekly Dance and Music Choices
I agree sax. I think the theme nights could do with a revamp. I don't think we need Musicals and Film nights, they're too similar and could be combined.
I'd prefer a night where all of the contestants have the same dance like a Charleston or the Couples Choice (which I don't like) so that direct comparisons could be made.
I think a big Band Night would be good, as long as the powers that be don't turn it into another of their great 'waste-a-time/lets massage the scoreboard-a-thons'.
I think if we must have the Couples Choices, maybe they could mix the categories up a bit. I get fed up of seeing endless 'contemporary/street' offerings. They bore me rigid.
I'm sure a lot of the stage school candidates must have learned other forms of dance like tap dancing for example.
It would be more of a challenge if all of the contestants had the same one category to do. For example, I'd love to see Janette do a theatre/jazz routine but I doubt that will happen.

Re: 2021 Weekly Dance and Music Choices
For me if SCD keep Couples Choice then let all the Couples do it one week. Id like to see a few more different styles and not just Street. Jazz sounds a great choice. Love to see a few Flamenco segments mixed in too.
Id like to get rid of Halloween Week it bores me rigid and gettinf very predictable.
Id like maybe to see a Twenties Week or a Forties Week. Loved Gethin in his Military Uniform so for me id love to see more Military uniforms week.
Also as I loved Team Formation week maybe a Team Dance one week split celebs into 3 groups with a Pro Dancer Couple ( Guests or Spares)

Re: 2021 Weekly Dance and Music Choices
Still no announcements on the main BBC site regarding dances and tunes.
Mind you they still haven't included the new pro dancers on the current pro pictures that they updated last week by taking An ton off!

Re: 2021 Weekly Dance and Music Choices
I'm only here for the Blue Monday Tango.
There's some ok tunes in that lot, but they are either hackneyed and have been done to death (That's Life) or don't quite fit the dance (Mi Gente - to0 stoppy and starty for a Samba).
Very pleased that My Bestie is to be done and dusted in the first week (if we REALLY had to have it at all).
Very sad that of all Manneskin's songs, they chose the cover of a song I don't like in the first place and which has also been done to Strictly death. A Tango to Slave would have been awesome (I adore Manneskin - winners of this year's Eurovision Song Contest - and want to be all of them at once. Their not-on-stage styling is to die for - am channeling my own interpretation of the look (sort of mid 1970s Art student meets Rolling Stones and their girlfriends of the same era) via all the charity shops I can find. Doing quite well so far.)

The usual mixed bag there. Some have good starters other less so. Some as well seem to have just (annoyingly again) been given songs with reference to what they are loosely known for such as Sara Davies landing The Boss by Diana Ross (cringe).
Re: 2021 Weekly Dance and Music Choices
A mixed bag of music.
I'm looking forward to see what Gorka has designed for his tango to Black Hole.
Mi Gente is already driving me crazy. It sounds very repetitive and boring imo not really samba vibe despite the usual youngsters gyrating on the video.
I don't hear any particular dance rhythm in Gold Dust. Probably the band will slow it down into some sort of jive. Hope they've got some oxygen on standby for AJ.
I like the sound of Tilly's waltz to Consequences.
Anything by Aretha is fine by me, but I wondering how Graziano is going to make it into a A.Smooth.
Can't hear a Cha-Cha in the Diana Ross choice, but then again Alijaz can make a dance out of someone playing the spoons.

Re: 2021 Weekly Dance and Music Choices
A right bunch of Dolly Mixtures this week.
Can't beat a bit of Cass Elliot's smooth voice. I think the Foxtrots and Quicksteps are well set up.
I'm not sure why that version of La Cumparsita was chosen. It's ok but doesn't have the fire and passion of other versions.
Can't be doing with the 'gangster style' racket for Judi's samba
Hooray - some proper Charleston music for Tilly
I'm not into covers unless they surpass the original (which rarely happens) or they add something new and novel.
Human nature sound ok and do a reasonable cover, but why bother being a second hand 'Four Tops? At least Tommy blaze will belt this one out in fine fashion.
Gordon Lightfoot is another favourite of mine, and turning a classic heartbreak ballad into a trashy disco pop-bop is diabolical.
I'm a bit worried for Dan. I don't mind the tune but for a Paso?

Re: 2021 Weekly Dance and Music Choices
My hearing isn't what it was, ( in a lot of cases it bothers me not) but at least I can watch the ebb and flow of the dances. I'm quite happy to be a dinosaur where ballroom dance is concerned. At my age I'm unlikely to be converted. At one time, music was written to suit timing, today timing is done to suit the music and much of it is what I call tear-ass, metronome gone mad music.

Re: 2021 Weekly Dance and Music Choices
Ok. I have only two things to say...
Cuba. Salsa. Yes please.
Couple's Choice? Couple's fandangoing Choice? REALLY?? I thought there were at least 23 concurrent petitions to put this abomnation to bed once and for all. We went out on a high with Bill and Oti's - let's leave it there. Nobody, but nobody wants to see another couple's choice. I would rather scrub 28 toilets and 27 showers than have to endure another one of these. And a Karen and Greg contempowaft is something that nobody should be subjected to unless they have committed a crime which is somewhere between prison and community service level, in which case it is the perfect punishment. I think the producer must have been working from home for too long with their partner, an adult kid and the adult kid's partner and are now slightly unhinged. It't the only explanation.

Agree Diamonds - I'm afraid Karen's got 2 strings to her CC - Disco or Street (hang on someone else choreographed that). Disco it is then. Greg's going to be in danger if he's not careful

Re: 2021 Weekly Music Choices
I turned into Mrs Outrage tonight whilst watching ITT and listening to Karen and Greg talking about their 'Couples Choice' - I've never been against 'Couples Choice' but how come someone is allowed to do it in the second week??? It is grossly unfair on the other couples struggling with learning the intricacies of dances like the Samba and the Tango and then Karen is allowed to do a prance around disco n umber with her partner!!!! I bet some of the other celebs would be able to do a disco n umber quite easily as well! Even Mr Mauve commented ' well not going to be any fundamentals there' What a cop out - is this an attempt to try to do a crowd pleaser that will protect the mature male contestant from a possible exit on the first week? Cynical moi? Greg doesn't need that and deserves better.
Although the whole 'Couples Choice' thing will never be entirely fair until they put it all on one night and make it a themed show.
I also feel worried for Dan with having to do a paso. I was really looking forward to an elegant waltz or fox trot from these two as I think the ballroom will suit them. Loving the Charleston music and of course 'Cuba' all the way.................

Re: 2021 Weekly Dance and Music Choices
Karen likes bare feet and a nightie so I assumed it would be a contempowafty CC. But disco it is (only not really actual disco, but some stylised, bowdlerised version).
And Mauve, I think there are load of people that share your opinion that you need to have a few weeks dancing under your belt before you get awarded CC. I personally will not be moved from my stance (I am set in concrete on a plinth) that you can NEVER have enough weeks dancing under your belt to do the CC.

Now that we don't know what sort of Couples Choice is involved, it just adds to the general confusion. Music - don't know. Dance - maybe, but which sort!TANGOLERO wrote: Sorry about this, but Chuck Berry apart I haven't a clue...

Depends which nightie she wears. Could be a full Miss Haversham Nightie or a Baby Doll or heaven forbid a saycy Ann Summers Net thing

There is no way most choices are dance music, ie music that makes you want to dance.

Re: 2021 Weekly Music and Dance Choices
Agree about the James Bond theme - anyway, hasn't that one all been done before???
I've kind of accepted that in Movie Week technique goes out of the window and it is all about the dance having to fit the theme rather than the other way round because they rarely choose dance movies!! Although I'm Ok with Chicago and Hairspray. This year even more they seem to have gone for the 'Big' movie tracks which makes it even more difficult to fit it to a ballroom/latin dance.
Positives:
'Best Years of our Lives' - good samba beat which should help Sara.
'Johnny B Goode' - I'm sure the band will have a good go at doing it justice
I like the fact that there is a good spread of ballroom dances this year - and has been since the first show although this year's ballroom dance of the moment seems very much to be the Foxtrot - which is lovely but do we need so many of them all at once? Notice a lot of pros using up their American Smooth tokens early too - as not so much expected in the way of big lifts although it sounds as though AJ and Kai will deliver.
Possibly a positive - The Muppet Show - if we can get past the inevitable costumes then actually I think this is a decent QS track.
Negative:
'James Bond' - as above. A perfect opportunity for Karen to do another 'placed' n umber despite the awesome music.
'Spiderman' - Just another showboating opportunity - whilst I expect they will come up with something very watchable, it's a couples choice so expect swinging, crawling and climbing all over the studio with nothing that resembles a known dance.
Adam and Katya's Rumba to the Avatar music - eeek!!!
