Have only read about 30 pages so far Sax, though should get it finished by weekend hopefully.

Have also been reading the numerous veg growing books I got given at xmas....did you know a runner bean can grow up to an inch in a day Shocked Or, to keep on topic, the translation of Boris Pasternak, the author of Dr Zhivago, is Boris Parsnip. Somehow I feel I'm going to remember all the random facts like that and forget all the useful stuff.

Hope you're feeling better Sax - was it just a tummy bug, or the dreaded norovirus?

Have finally finished Red Herring and posted review. Will make a start on Life of Pi now (or should I cheat and go see the film first!)

When are you going to Yorkshire Sax? Sounds cosy.

Wonder if the others have finished it too??If not LoP is there another you fancy?? book of course! Razz

Life of Pi fine for me Sax, just have to pinch it off OH! Not sure who else in on board for the club?

Yes, I looked at the Mantel books in Waterstones and just thought I'd never manage to read anything so long. Will be very interested in your verdict on them.

It's about 20 degrees here today! Very Happy It's pretty much the only thing stopping me from having a hissy fit! Mountain of things to do, including an airport run on public transport(not bad but -still) and the OH fails to meet me in the city so we can go shopping together, now I don't have time! Is it too early for a glass of wine?

Read the book first Jingle! I've now done both and although the film is awesome the book has the edge, and also one scene from the book in particular doesn´t make the film which I thought should have.

Have to start my Last Duchess, will get on it this week! I´m in, if a bit tardy if that´s ok? I can start the ball rolling with Life of Pi if you like though? Will also comment a bit on the film if that's ok?

Happy New Year to all - so very glad I popped in as I have just downloaded Life of Pi on my (new Xmas Pressie) Kindle. Which i absolutely LOVE though I didn't think I would. Not sure how the bookclub works so please point me in the right direction as I do have some faves I would like to recommend. also some hates - fsog - total rubbish imo I was so bored by the same thing happening every few pages. Mills and Boon with a bit of fetish for the massess. But hey, everyone has different tastes and it obviously found a market. Anyway will come back when I have read Life of Pi.
Hope you all had a great Xmas and loads of luck and love in 2013. Maya xx

I totally loved it Sax - it's pacy, a bit slapstick at times but very much a feel-good story. Just one note of caution, I think it's one of those books which has to be read pretty quickly - OH read a few chapters at a time and just couldn't get into it.

Btw I'm still waiting for him to finish Life of Pi before I can start it.

Great news to hear that Maya is joining us too Very Happy - if anyone else out there wants to get involved please do, there's no pressure to read all the books.

Sax
Sax, before I got my Kindle I felt exactly the same. But, Hallelujah, I am a convert. Completley. I can instantly access all the books I want, i must admit, it still feels like magic to me. Initially I got it for holidays, but because I can change the font size and therefore don't need specs, I have swiftly become accustomed to the Kindle attributes. Now please understand, this is out of character fro me, as I am usually a bit of a luddite in these matters, but as I said,I am converted. And I love my Kindle more than any other technolgy I have. I'm the same Sax, and until our kindle got broken I was using it less than the rest of the family, that might have been because the OH was hogging it though! It does have its merits, I took it when I had to pick up from the airport, I always carry a book and a kindle is certainly lighter! I will be getting the screen fixed, but I also think I might get a tablet for reading on, the multifunctionality of them is better I think.
