Strictly and wine o' clock
Hi - I'm a radio journalist writing a piece about how the rise of Saturday night event TV is leading more of us to relax in front of the telly with some wine - and maybe not thinking about how much we're drinking. Has anyone else had this experience? Especially people from Staffs/ South Cheshire. If so, please contact me on 07946 389103. We can change names if necessary.

Re: Strictly and wine o' clock
Hello Jenny, welcome to the forum. Just out of interest how did you find us?
I am not one of those who drinks wine while watching TV - only with food, also beer especially on a hot summer's day - remember those. Unfortunately, therefore, I can't help you but there may well be those on here who can.
I don't speak for the masses but people around me do tend to sit in on a Saturday now that Strictly is here and, of course, X-Factor, plus other programmes. It's only on special occasions that we go out on a Saturday - say, to a party or wedding or theatre. We tend to drink tea or coffee and eat chocolates on a Saturday night.
Good luck with your research.

Hi Lucielle... your Saturday nights sound lovely! I'm a big Strictly fan and had joined other forums but found this one just through Google... you're ranked highly on page 1 - just under the BBC'S and the Daily Mail's, which is really great if this has been set up by fans, rather than a big company.

Hello Jenny
I am curious why a Saturday night? Equally I feel Sunday TV has as much audience figures as Saturday ie Homeland,Downton Abbey,X Factor results & SCD results too

No reason why it can't be either Sat or Sunday - I guess I was thinking Sat might lend itself better to a girls' night in. Any willing volunteers to speak to me about it, please let me know!

Re: Strictly and wine o' clock
Saturday nights tend to be family/couples night traditionally girls nights out were Thursdays! However Sundays I tend to meet a friend or two usually at each others house.Interesting point a lot of younger people drink more wine on a Saturday night before going out at 11pm! My neice & friends will watch tv/listen to music drink & at a time Id be thinking of a taxi home they go out!!I feel this 24/7 pub/club culture holds a lot to blame re alcohol problems.
We meet friends at home yes we will drink wine with nibbles however we play card games & chat not watch the tv!! Shift workers social lives tend to work differently than those on 9-5 & yes mid week I would watch a show with a glass of wine!! plus cheese n biscuits!!
Weird I would never contemplate drinking spirits at home! just feels wrong! The era I grew up in!!
My grandmother bless her sould once remarked once the shops sell alcohol other than the off license! Society has had it!! I feel many years later she may have a point!!
good luck Jenny

Hi Jenny
Interesting piece of research. Wish I could help but I'm not much of a drinker. Just the odd Jack Daniels & coke!
We're obviously too well behaved here lol
All the best.

Hi Jenny- glad you found us! For my family the advent of autumn heralds the return of the 'Strictly Supper' which basically means I'm not cooking because I will be sat on the sofa, so we have a help yourself buffet. I might occasionally have a glass of something ( I don't drink much and I don't like wine but mine's a vodka and coke) while I watch but more often than not it's a cuppa!

Wow we are a sombre lot However Im a big wine fan!! Why I guess I adore France so much!! We also enjoy SCD usuallly a takeaway curry sometimes or home made stir fry!! When SCD results on after 9 0'Clock news then Id enjoy a chilled Chenin Blanc not at 6!!
I also enjoy the new non alcoholic Becks/Cobra etc better than sugery coke!!
Alls when out Im partial to bubbly so maybe Im expensive
Sid you have the same Christmas tipple as me!!

Hi Jenny
Sorry, am no use to your research - it's Strictly cup of tea for me on Saturday nights. Very rarely drink alcohol, maybe a couple of times a year, but never at home.
More than
ps but if you were doing a piece about Strictly fanatics, then you're in the right place!

It's an Italian blend and it's very nice.
I do like all the ones you mentioned, just Californian I'm not all that keen on.
Can't beat a Full bodied Chilean
