I think I want to cry. Chuck Berry is the best thing on the list. Disgusting choices for everything except the Charlston. , sorry.

If they're really desperate for dance music I have loads of it, shelf-fulls.

Which Dance and Music Choices

I think I have to agree with you..................no classics this week ............
Johnny B Goode is indeed the best one to me too Mr T.
I am particularly perturbed at some of the tempos of the tracks when matched to the dances. Much as I like the track, I can't possibly see how 'Love really hurts without you' can be formed into an American Smooth - but no doubt we're going to find out................... Similarly - feel the same about the track that Chizzy and P asha will be using to attempt the Foxtrot? And as for Ed Sheeran for a Tango?? not nearly enough Tango beat in it for me?
However, I quite like the track that Gemma and Alijaz will be waltzing to - I hope they get a better position in the running order of the show to give them a chance - and I have to say I love 'Last Night' by the Strokes and I think it will go down well for a Quick Step
As for the Gorka and Alexandra paso - no disrespect to Jennifer Lopez, but honestly it sounds like something that you would dance around your handbag to in a Benidorm bar (no disrespect to Benidorm either). Come on Gorka you are Spanish!!!!!
on another note.................clever Kevin - on this occasion and for this partnership I think he's done well getting the Charleston on the second week. It will play to all Susan's comedic strengths and I bet they will do a really good routine that will carry them through. I really thought Kevin might crash and burn without his usual 'type' to dance with, but I may be very wrong.....................
Lastly - I am quite glad to note that they seem to have given the ballroom couples from last week a latin n umber and vice versa - I think the couples should do one of each over the first two weeks. I expect we'll see lots of lifts, thrills and spills from Jeannette and Aston's salsa

Aaaaarggghh! Despacito - that song is so ridiculously catchy, I've been trying to get it out of my head all summer.

If we're having Jennifer Lopez Jingle (not a big fan), it has to be this for me....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSLSwwkLRW0

Ye gods and little fishes...
That Jo Lo tune is actually not a bad latin number.... but a paso it is NOT!
I am just resigned that there are going to be really crappy, inappropriate tempo/mood tunes in every week. However, the ones that get the viewers vote and the audience standing ovations are the ones where the tempo and the mood match the dance. So in the end the viewers and audience win...
The producers totally underestimate its viewers...
You'd think they'd have learnt by now.
(BY the way producers - you're fired....)

Yes. Viewers will never be experts but they've become knowledgeable over the years and know what music works for what dance and what doesn't and they won't be fobbed off with inappropriate crap. I much, much preferred the days when pros were in complete control of their songs.

How I'd just love a little innovation, like maybe somebody doing a slow graceful waltz to this..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdPc9CqvtX0
Or maybe go really daring and go for this as a slow foxtrot...:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6-FSc3CpQI
or go really wild and hit...Bailamos.......

Apart from the Zivago theme, the mind boggles. As if there isn't enough suitable music around...

Re: SCD 2017 Which Dance & Music Choices This Week?
Yes Sax- a few weird choices indeed. But, it has become the norm now....
The only ones I am looking forward to (based on song and dance match alone - not the dancers) are the Quickstep to Let's call the Whole Thing Off; VW to Somewhere My Love; Rumba to Diamonds Are Forever (keep in mind I am basing this on the song/dance not the dancers or the choreographer! Just imagine Vinthent and the Rachel Stevens...); Charleston to Bare Necessities.
You can keep the rest.
Gosh, I sound like I'm about 97 and only like dances done to tunes that were all the rage in 1933!
I'm all for something more current, but it has to be appropriate to the mood, style and rhythm of the dance. For example, a missed opportunity to do something to a LaLa Land tune - American Smooth to Somewhere in the Crowd perhaps? I also think that Spice up Your Life from the Spice Girls movie makes for a good Samba (think they used that last year actually). So I'm not ALL about Fred and Ginger tunes....
PS - who thought that giving the Rumba - a silly dance at the best of times (unless in very safe hands) - to A.nton and Ruth was going to be good entertainment? Or the Rev larking about and hamming it up to 'If I Only had a Brain' was going to be a joy to watch?

I had to smile when I saw Brian's tune - ouch! Never mind, it's not as if anyone else is doing an American Smooth now is it?
I'm not 100% sure I got the Wonder Woman theme right. Doesn't feel like a Samba to me, but hey-ho what do I know? No doubt the band will weave it's magic and Kevin will come up with something special.

Re: SCD 2017 Which Dance & Music Choices This Week?
We've company Saturday night so not sure I'll get round to watching Movie Week til Sunday. I do like the tradition of it though. Sunetra and Brendan and Ore and Joanne's American Smoothes will always stand out for me.
I do hope Joe's fixed his frame and Kataya's back on top choreography form cos I so want their VW to Somewhere My Love to be gorgeous.
Obviously I hate the inappropriate music, and ideally they'd all have something decent, but I mind slightly less when it's given to the not-very-good-ones because then at least it feels less of a waste of talent and less consequential.
What's irking me tho is they seem determined to manufacture another Ed Balls out of the Rev and I wish they'd stop.

Re: SCD 2017 Which Dance & Music Choices This Week?
In one way I'm glad A nton's got the rumba so early whilst there is a chance it won't be the total "disaster dahling" of the night dance..Same thing applies with Alijaz getting the Charlston done with whilst there are plenty of bodies out there. . As for music choice (on which I'll probably not agree with many anyway, being an old traditionalist) It's all more about 3/4 and 4/4 time tunes than what era they're from. Even I wouldn't like to see what a dogs dinner the weapon of love Barton Theme (The Devil's Gallop) would turn out as anything terpshicorial, or The Archers anthem as a Vienese Waltz.Even I have limits, although Flight of the Bumblebee might even stop Jannette in her tracks....

Re: SCD 2017 Which Dance & Music Choices This Week?
Well that's some very weird choices of music....
You've got a friend in me has a very slow tempo- so they put a quickstep to it?! The paso dobles would get a poo emoji from me if we had one!
Best of the bunch for me- I reckon Gemma and Alijaz could have fun with Bare Necessities, Joe and Katya potentially with the VW if he gets it right, and Alexandra and Gorka's AS.
To me it seems like Brian is being forced into Ed's vacant comedy slot with the W of Oz music, as I said elsewhere I find the Rev neither funny nor entertaining. I'm sure they'll put him in some ridiculous costume and he'll try his best.... The thing with Ed though was that he loved it, he did actually put some moves in, and he came across so mich more personable than I ever expected from an MP, he was actually quite endearing. I won't ever say that about the Rev, but I might about Brian. Sorry I can't remember who mentioned about him doing Al Jolson- yes I remember that too, so I'm hoping that somewhere in his muscle memory is some dance...

Re: Strictly 2017 Which Dance and Music Choices this week
Although I agree there are some strange choices, I don't feel as though it is the car crash that was last weeks show. I nearly always enjoy movie week.
There are some that I am looking forward to - Debbie and Gio's Quick Step, Joe and Katya's Viennese Waltz, I think that Gemma and Alijaz will do just fine with 'Bare Necessities' - great choice of track - (I know it's not one of his best dances). Love Stayin' Alive - not designed to be a samba but very much fits the beat of the song and I think A nton is wisely getting the rumba out of the way on a 'theme' week.
Janette and Aston will no doubt turn in a light and bouncy cha cha to their track and I think that AJ and Mollie will do an 'interesting' routine to 'Climb Every Mountain' - doesn't come to mind as a track to dance to but he said on ITT tonight that they will be doing a slow foxtrot - so as I say - interesting....................
As others have said, the tracks for the pasos sound universally awful and I note that there are no less than three American Smooths! I suppose the loose nature of this one suits the theme of the evening where they have to find dances that fit the toons that they select!! It seems that on the show these days they do the American Smooth to anything and in any tempo - I remember when it was first introduced to the show and although they could use a waltz, quickstep or Foxtrot it had to be 60/40 in and out of hold - I remember L en was always telling A rtem off for being out of hold too much.............how things change.............
Lastly didn't they do the toy story one a few years ago? (with James J ordan dressed as Woody) or am I imagining that............
