Well there's some cracking rhythmic tunes this week. On the whole, I like the selections.

Not sure about 'Hero' for a waltz but no doubt Dave Arch will weave his magic.

I love Fleetwood Mac but not sure about this for an Argentine tango.

Thanks B4p...

Por Una Cabeza (By a head) is the slow tango music Al Pacino danced to in the film "Scent of a Woman). Should be great for Aljaz and Sara.

Tilly & NikitaHave  Paso Doble to Diablo Rojo by Rodrigo y Gabriela, love these two, my daughter bought me a C.D of theirs. ( Lunatico) Love it.

Greg & Karen: Samba to Macarena by Los Del Rio. This is a pure fun number rather than a strict Samba, and Greg may get another week because of it.

Adam & Katya: Argentine Tango to Tango in the Night by Fleetwood Mac. Great music, but ...well, we'll see.

Tom & Amy: Foxtrot to Fly Me to the Moon by Frank Sinatra. Will be Dance of the night..mark my words... Very Happy

I'm not sure about that Charleston music either Tango but Dave Arch has saved many a tune situation. It's currently quite a march/pedestrian type tune so I'm not sure what the theme will be.

Agree about the Stevie Nick's number. I thought that would be more of a Tango rhythm but again, I'll wait to see the arrangement.

Can't beat a bit of Buble, unless Rhys starts adding a beat-box beat in there. Guess it will be a Foxtrot based A.Smooth

Post  diamondsandpearls Wed Oct 20, 2021 10:00 pm

There's a few goodies in there this week.

The Billy Joel one is very swoopy and Viennese Waltzy - I would love to see one done to Piano Man too.

And the Alicia Keyes one, Fallin' is also a swoopy gift and I suspect that Gio will make a more emotional dance and better choreo for their VW than Nadiya (bless her adorable, the devils work chops) will for the Billy Joel one (it will be super wholesome and nice though)

I am not really a Fleetwood Mac or Stevie Nicks fan (not particularly a Billy Joel fan either, bit if a song works...) but I can see this song working for a Tango.. An Argentine Tango though? No not really.

I'm also not particularly a fan of Michael Bubbles (shock horror, sorry!  My Mum is though, if that helps...) but his songs are nearly always spot on for trotting around like a wily old fox, so I suspect this one will work too (I only know Just Haven't Met You Yet and something Christmassy with sleigh bells in it).

Big fan of Edith and Milor, but most certainly not for a Charleston! What ever next?!

I really like the Shania Twain song, but... a rumba? Not convinced. (Sara's footwork in training looked awesome - if she leaves her hips at home I might actually enjoy this rumba)

Love, love, love Faith, and can see it has bounce, but ITS NOT LATIN! Aand Latin music for a Samba IS ESSENTIAL. (Sorry, shouting now...)

Another George offering, with Knew You were Waiting, and again, with Aretha in tow, what's not to love? But this isn't about my musical tastes (which I am slightly miffed about if I'm honest - it's much less frustrating than picking through these SCD weird choices), it's about appropriate music for the dance. I think this can be made to work.

I don't know the One Direction song and I really can't be bothered to check it out. A foxtrot to 1D though... I bet Simon Cowell never imagined that in 2010...

And I really like the Harry Styles song but.... IT'S NOT LATIN. And Latin music for a Salsa IS ESSENTIAL (sorry, I'm back to shouting again).  When are they EVER going to learn at Strictly Towers that Latin dances always do better with us the viewers when they are done to Latin music (Danny Mac's Samba being the epitome).

I don't like B runo Mars, I don't like the rumba, have no idea if it has a Latin feel and I don't really care (because it's not ACTUALLY LATIN MUSIC)
(I've just succumbed and clicked the link. It's one I know, but it's the 70s smooooth soul vibe one - sort of Harry Melvin and the Bluenotes but... cringier. IT'S NOT LATIN)

Faith is probably my favourite George Michael song but I can only see it as a slow Samba at best. Then again, Katya did a great slow Samba for Joe in Musicals week so who knows?

I always feel sorry for contestants trying to learn the Rumba to songs with completely different rhythm patterns.  It's supposed to be - 1,2,3, Cha-Cha,Cha but with a hold on the 3rd beat, instead of going into the the Cha-Cha-Cha. It's easy for the professional to dance despite the music but not easy for a beginner.

Adam's let lucky with Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata for his Viennese waltz, but not sure Eve of the War has to do with a Paso Doble. A cape versus an alien space craft? . Hmmm, that should be short-lived..lol!

Really looking forward to hearing the moonlight Sonata and seeing what Katya comes up with.
A steamy song for a VW for AJ. I guess the connection will be literal as usual. Maybe she's a vamp or a werewolf?
Bad Moon Rising should make a good Quickstep.
I like the rhythm of the tune Tilly's got although I don't know that song.
I sincerely hope Dan hasn't been lumbered with the lobster outfit!
I like the War of the Worlds music but I don't have any confidence in Nancy's choreography or Rhys listening to the brief.
I'm intrigued as to what Alijaz has organised for his first Couple's Choice

Agree about Bad Moon Rising and also about Moonlight Sonata - I expect it will be suitably spooky and hopefully it will be good and perhaps a breakthrough dance for Adam if he can do the music justice.
I'm afraid that when I hear about lobsters all I can think about is the Scott Mills routine with him cavorting around with pincers! Not a good image. I love the track Rock Lobster but not really for a jive, not sure about this one for Dan.

Ref: War of the Worlds - what has this got to do with Hallowe'en??? It's Sci Fi and belongs on Movie Night. Surely they could have found him something a bit more in keeping with the occasion.

With the current trend against bullfighting (even in many parts of Spain) Paso-Doble (double-pass) has less to do with Corrida and more to do with skaters waltz. Flamenco is replacing the matador and that too may disappear from the ballrooms as street dance and couple's choice become the new vogue. As for Halloween, I wish it would also disappear. Indeed, I agree with you, Mauve, what has War of the Worlds (great music though it is) even got to do with anything ballroom or Halloween? Next up is a Viennese Waltz to Benny Hill's theme music followed by a jive to Tocatta and Fugue..

Now I can imagine a Tango to Tocatta & Fugue (I bet Alijaz would come with something good to that). The Benny Hill theme slowed down could maybe make a 'slow step' or maybe some sort of crazy Charleston!

I've got Verdi's "Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves" in my head after hearing it yesterday. Wonder what the pros could do with it. Possible tango/paso?

Ooops , apologies, Getting my classics in a muddle. It was Carl Orff's "O Fortuna-Carmina Burana" I meant after listening to both (I'm sure it's been done) The Hebrew Slaves chorus would need something lilting. Sorry..senior moment Embarassed Embarassed

Just by-the-by, I didn't know Kate Hudson could sing?

I'd forgotten about that 'Don't bring Lulu' song. Takes me back to my childhood!

The Sting song is one of my favourites of his.

Adam's got a great toe tapper with 'Little bitty Pretty One'. He'll get away with his bum sticking out this week if his weight is forward onto his toes. I hope he can do a reasonable jive, he's got the stamina.
