Re: Costumes 2013
aubergine tends to be warmer. Violet is the cool end. Mauve, and anything with mauve in it is the warm end.

Re: Costumes 2013
Just looked at Sophie's dressa again and now I do think it's aubergine. I remembered it as being both cooler and more muted but looking at the dress rehearsal pic, I think it was probably the blue lights making it look more indigo than it was.

Re: Costumes 2013
I skipped through bits of the show and will hopefully see it later in all it's glory.
I agree that Tess seems to be wearing more classy dresses over the past few weeks. I loved the white Grecian dress and didn't mind the black jumpsuit. I think Claudia has body image issues, and probably tells wardrobe to cover her up in a bin bag creation whilst occasionally conceding to a colour or two.
Darcey's dress was mesmerising for all the wrong reasons. I couldn't help thinking she'd got some tattoos whilst in Blackpool. The scrawls up her arms and framing her cleavage were most distracting.
I liked the style and purple colour of Natalie's dress. The purple Quality St is my favourite too.
Wasn't sure about Sophie's nightie, reminded me of Ann Summers lingerie. I couldn't make the colour out, so obviously need to thump the TV a bit. Is that what HD ready meant - Hard Dig imminent?
I liked the style and colour of Abby's dress but agree that it wasn't Paso. I enjoy the strong vibrant colours and sometimes find the pastel shades a bit saccharin.
Kristina always looks the same to me - a bikini with a few tassels.
Susanna seems to have the BOGOF offer of tassels this year.
I liked the hairstyles more this week, especially the high pony tails.

Re: Costumes 2013
I agree. On my telly when she was dancing the dress looked what I called midnight blue and which you (more accurately I think!) called Indigo. And someone else - I think it was actually Hatlady herself - said it was black. But when Sophie was sitting upstairs with the brighter lights I could see the purpleness of it. But exactly which shade of purple is now the debate....! Aubergine still seems the closest to me, as in an almost black purple - what midnight blue/indigo is to blue, this is to purple.Littlebear wrote:Just looked at Sophie's dressa again and now I do think it's aubergine. Obviously not that it matters to the world continuing to spin on its axis one jot, but it's fun!
I forgot to mention Tess's dress. Really loved the white Grecian number. Liked the jumpsuit until I got to the ends of the legs - they ended too soon (the trousers legs -not Tess's. She has plenty of leg. In fact I reckon she could spare me some....)

lol mauve!
I'm sure I read it described by that colour somewhere diamonds....might have been the Mail article on her dance (or more specifically B.rendan's ding dong with the judges!)diamondsandpearls wrote:

Re: Costumes 2013
Hi Sid
I think it is really difficult to be precise because of lighting and different screens. Also we all see colour slightly differently..... So the Mail person probably saw it as I first saw it - on the dance floor with quite blue lighting. Looking at the clip they showed on ITT where Brendan was proclaiming and protesting to Tess, I noticed that his shirt matched. It was really very dark - almost black, but definitely of a purple hue. I am tempted to call it blackberry... But aubergine would also be very near - though maybe notquite as dark....
I am SO loving that we are all taking the hue of Sophie's dress so seriously! I normally get glowered at and asked "who cares...?". So glad some of do!

Re: Costumes 2013
Just remembered, this colour family often comes across strangely on TV. An outfit of matching dress, shoes etc. may look completely mismatched on TV because the different materials react to TV light differently. Princess Diana was once caught out by this.

Re: Costumes 2013
She was on some interview programme and what should have been a beautifully matched outfit.....looked like a car crash. I rmember being told that purples under television lights are not reliable.

Re: Costumes 2013
Also Hatlady certain stripes or polka dots can give me visual disturbances under glare of lights or on tv.Why is this?

Re: Costumes 2013
I was thinking of the shade of dress again re it being "Auberigne" & I feel previously we may have said "Violet?". So could it be Violet colour

Re: Costumes 2013
Oh sax, my understanding of the stripe issue is "foggy". I think it has to do with how the cameras capture the image. Used to be that inside your TV, the screen was backed by teeny tiny clusters of 3 dots, each of the primary colours in light (red, green and blue). A light gun as it were would energise the combination required for a particular colour. All that created a degree of 'vibration' particularly for narrow stripes. HOWEVER, this is the ancient technology. I know nothing about digital and HD. I SUSPECT that actually stripes etc are no longer a problem.

Re: Costumes 2013
Thanks HatLady! Its on older repeats I notice it more.HD tv seems fine but in the shops with old fashioned strip lighting it can be a problem! Guess why I feel "green" re polka dots.

Re: Costumes 2013
Good Lord, what on earth was K.aren Hardy wearing on ITT? Did she get dressed in the dark?
While she was sat down and you could only see the top half she looked ok. When the camera showed her full length there was a right old mixture of patterns going on. To be fair her hair was the best I've seen it for a long time.

Plus, by and large, I think wardrobe are doing an excellent job this year. They seem to be giving much more considered thought to the outfits this series than before. There are fewer disasters IMO and lots to appreciate and admire. Would you agree hatlady?

I wonder as the theme is chitty chitty bang bang for one of the dances if an appearence from The Rat Catcher is due?Or the awful musical figures on boxes.Shudders I still have the singing nun to look forward too! Heaven forbid.

Re: Costumes 2013
Methinks he was a child catcher Sax. Incredibly sinister and horrible... I certainly hope he DOESN'T make an appearance. He's too scary even for Hallowe'en....saxonsiren wrote:I wonder as the theme is chitty chitty bang bang for one of the dances if an appearence from The Rat Catcher is due?Or the awful musical figures on boxes.Shudders I still have the singing nun to look forward too! (Having said that, although I find the whole concept incredibly disturbing now I don't think I was bothered by him at all as a child...)

Re: Costumes 2013
I do think wardrobe have done quite well. Aside from anything else they have started to understand how to dress the mature women.

Re: Costumes 2013
I agree Hatlady some beautiful dresses this year & Deborah had lovely details/colours.I can recall the horror frocks Esther wore & Gloria too. The big question is will O.la wear a catsuit? & do you feel a cat suit is appropriate for SCD?

Re: Costumes 2013
Iveta has already worn the gold one......catsuit exposes much less flesh than Kristina and O.la's usual offereings why not on SCD?

I'll let Hatlady do the real costume critique, but I just wanted to say that Natalie's dress was GOOR-GUSS!
