Hi Mauve
I always find the "pun" song choices (such as Judy's and Steve's) really irritating on several levels. Sometimes they are right for the dance but more often they are not

Yes I groaned inwardly when I saw Steve's song!
I think we've reached a point where they're running out of songs so we're going to get more repeats and some silly choices.
I don't mind Toxic for a Tango, I'm rather looking forward to that one. I'm also curious to see Janette's choreography - can't decide if it was unimpressive last year or Julien was so poor he couldn't do it any justice!
Anything by Adele sends me to sleep.
But moaning aside, I'm sooooo excited, just two more sleeps folks!

Re: Which Dance This Week?
Found this website courtesy of the Dark Side which lists the most chosen songs for Strictly so far. It's interesting.
http://www.ultimatestrictly.com/songs/
Some of the songs have been used as recently as last week on DWTS. Here are some clips. I didn't copy the show dance ones as I didn't think our celebs would be up to whirling folks round their heads just yet. Apparently Brian Fortuna and Ali Bastion did a Tango to Steppenwolf. DWTS used the same song as a Jive. Pasha & Kimberley used one of this weeks waltz songs as a Foxtrot.
Born to be wild - Jive (Kurt & Anna DWTS)
https://youtu.be/ex0bVRZEpj8
Happy - Jive (Charlie and Sharna DWTS)
https://youtu.be/fs-zSHfxk0w
Shake it off - Jive (Bethany & Derek DWTS)
https://youtu.be/Czny4r8x2Q0
Hot and Cold - Tango (Sean & Peta DWTS)
https://youtu.be/xeBUtRMbSqE
I’m every woman - Cha-Cha (Wendy & Tony DWTS)

Re: Which Dance This Week?
Tim and Nat's clip up today.
Tim will look horrible in that cha-cha routine. Thank goodness Nat's very nurturing, and not expecting much from Tim but still teaching him the basic cha-cha steps. I think Tim's goal is to do a really good ballroom routine so that he could brag to his wife he could ballroom dance with her finally! One tick off the bucket list!

Hot off the Beeb site: Week 3 (Oct 11th)
Tonight the professional dancers set the mood with a spectacular performance of There’s No Business Like Showbusiness. Then, in a night of Hollywood Glamour, the dancing duos will take to the ballroom floor and perform routines inspired by the movies - from action to romance and thriller to comedy.
And for one week only there's a very special guest judge - Donny Osmond!
Hosted by T ess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, the remaining couples must impress judges
Darcey Bussell, L en Goodman, Cr aig Revel Horwood and Br uno Tonioli in a bid to stay in the competition. The judges will score each performance out of ten.

That sounds like we'll be in for a really good show B4p - good way of keeping up the momentum after the first weeks. Should be some good toons as well........

The producers who foced these silly song choices on the pros and celebs should be flogged severely...

Although haven't completely ruled out the possibility that Joanne chose it all by herself!

Re: Which Dance This Week?
The noughties will ever be seen as the generation that got rid of all that sentimental tango, gaucho mush stuff (although Argentina is still the home of tango, and dance-wise, Paris in the thirties made it popular in the European dance halls, not Ray Martin in 1952 on top of the Pops, or even good old Victor Sylvester or Manuel who's never seen a mountain ) and replaced it with "proper music".
I mean , we all know Scary Spice is just the gal to throw a few cowboys across seedy dives while Jerry wotsit rains men in a union jack pelmet and stilleto diving boots. The Posh one will of course maintain a dignified silence, sitting there in a sombrero as she designs tartan ponchos and chaps with no er, ass bit, humming moodily about girl-power and thinking about a pic of Rudolph Velentino for David's next tattoo. Beyonce and all that lot will probably be adaptable to tango rythmns, and the world eagerly awaits Essex Tango. Yes folks, a new day has dawned on the Pampas to find all the cowboys have moved to suburbia and spurs are suddenly the new fashion item in Swarovski crystal stockists. "Get me out of here, I'm a Gaucho" is the next rap release predicted to surge to the fore for Christmas week chart-topper.
Why should Argentina cry for me?

Re: Which Dance This Week?
What strikes me immediately is the weak/strong couple element:
Jennifer vs Pixie - Waltz
Judy vs Sunetra - Cha-Cha
Jake vs Thom - Salsa
Simon vs Scott - Tango

Judy vs Sunetra - Cha-Cha
Jake vs Thom - Salsa
Simon vs Scott - Tango

Re: Which Dance This Week?
Just checking some of the tunes on youtube
I would have thought Spice Girls 'Stop Right Now' was more a Cha-Cha
Br uno Mars 'Treasure' seems like a 'nothing-beat' pop song
Can't see anything remotely Tango in Calvin Harris 'Blame'
Might just get a Tango out of Ed Sheeran's 'Sing'
I like some of the Latin choices, most of the ballroom and the two Charleston's should be entertaining for 2 completely different reasons looking at the couples involved! So disappointed with the Tango choices. Please can't we have a Tango that looks and sounds the part. It's becoming completely Strictly mismashed with the Paso and in danger of extinction. It's such a special dance. Thank goodness for the little folks (Vin cent & Fl avia) who promote and show all types of Tango.

Re: Which Dance This Week?
I'm surprised they didn't save the American Smooth for week 3's Movie Theme. Brave (?) to put lifts in so early for someone who is sick with nerves. Hope Karen's insurance is up to date.
Then again, if they are theming the movies to reflect the celebs it would be hard to think of a TOWIE one for Mark. (That's Our Wun Innit)
So what celeb suggestions can you come up with for Hollywood/Movie week?
For example, Steve could be Indianna Jones in The Temple of Doom.........or Crocodile Dundee

I caught their Tango, Mr T. Simply breathtaking. Gosh I miss them so much now. Not just their dancing but their personalities too - Vinnie's tongue-in-cheek humour and F.lavia's class
Interesting little discussion about dancer's shoes too! (on Titchmarsh).

I only caught the tango Sid, by pure luck actually. I walked in the lounge just as team Flavinnia appeared. Couldn't believe my luck. So glad they stayed together professionally. Tango style apparel, authentic tango music and the world champs dancing tango. What more could we ask?

Re: Which Dance this week?
I totally agree with you Mr T and B4P about the 'state of the Tango on SCD' - the tracks all seem to be 'stompy' tracks - not Tango-like at all - whilst the dance should be sharp and have some drama, there doesn't have to be a 'bang bang heavy beat' which is what is what we seem to be getting - the paso music last year was even more abysmal!
Thinking about Karen and Mark doing the American Smooth - I'm sure she did the American Smooth with D ave at this time last year - or it at least was very early on in the show.
