meant to say that I like the latin choices for this week............... 'Feeling hot hot hot' is a brilliant track for latin dancing - just makes you want to swing your hips...................

Re: Which Dance This Week?
Week 3 Movie Themes
Tim could be Mr Banks in Mary Poppins 'Let's Go Fly a Kite' (but he's just done a Waltz) or a Quickstep to 'Supercalifragislisticexpialidocious'
Mark could be dressed as a Chimney Sweep for another Mary Poppins character, doing a Charleston to 'Step in Time'.
Results show
Hey - I think whoever's behind that curtain in Oz Land was sneaking a peek at our scribblings!

Sorry I may have got Thoma & Mark mixed up. Yes it's Thom doing the Charleston.
I went into Don Henley Lyric mode
"I was flying back to Lubbock, I saw Jesus on the plane, or maybe it was Elvis, you know they kinda look the same...."

I bet Tim will let rip and give it his best shot. They make a lovely couple. He's quite a character and doesn't take himself too seriously. Don't know his music yet though

I know I've put this on before but it makes me happy, and for me, that's what dance is about! My absolute alltime favourite 'Footloose' montage. I think it's brilliant

Jive? Amazing to what's a distinct Cuban Rythm beat.
Frankie and Kevin - Paso Doble to ‘America’ from ‘West Side Story’.
Love the music, but Paso Doble? Rita Moreno would go bananas. Pure Salsa, Samba even
Sunetra and Brendan - American Smooth to ‘The Way You Look Tonight’ sung by Fred Astaire in ‘Swing Time’.
Should work
Jake and Janette - Waltzing to the ‘Godfather Waltz’ from the ‘The Godfather’.
Like it.
Mark and Karen - Paso Doble to the theme from ‘Superman’.
Dear me.....
Simon and Kristina - Rumba to ‘Take My Breath Away’ from the film ‘Top Gun’.
Yes.
Steve and O la - Quickstep to ‘I Wanna Be Like You’ from Disney’s ‘Jungle Book’.
Again, should be fun
Tim and Natalie - Charleston to ‘Money, Money’ from the musical ‘Cabaret’.
Tell me they're joking. Might as well do the Hop Scotch Polka.
Thom and Iveta - Charleston to ‘New York, New York’ from the soundtrack of the Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra musical ‘On The Town’.
Wah.......
What would we need a forum for it not controversy?

Re: Which Dance This Week?
West Side Story 'America' may sound 'latin', but Leonard Bernstein created a very varied beat to the song. It's sometimes compound duple (6/8 beat), and sometimes simply triple (3/4) beat. Sometimes it goes into some bizarre 5/4 beat!!!
How can anyone really dance to this music except some kind of jazz number?
Paso? I think this song is another example of the producers foisting a song onto the pro/celeb and watch them struggle to make it work.
Footloose is another rock and roll inspired song? How stupid is for them to make it into a jive?
The Godfather song can be done easily as a waltz as it's a classic 3/4 beat.
New York, New York as a Charleston? Unless they speed up the tempo somehow, I can't see that working either.
Caroline's Rumba could be good as far as music is concerned. Be Our Guest is slowish, so maybe it will let Pixie time to finasse it.
Argh! Superman themed paso? Is Mark going to wear a superman cape and then literally flip that thang around?!
I am going mental at some of the song choices!!!

Re: Which Dance This Week?
Apart from anything that vaguely resembles strict tempo, or dance based around simple basics, I'd seriously be tempted to tell the couples, "Throw the rule book away. Here's your music, fit a dance around it but you don't need to title it. Just get out there and dance. Entertain us!". Could be real fun for the pros and stop the judges from saying, "Ohh, she didn't do a New York in that cha-cha, and she did a heel lead in that Tangooooo!!
That's the sort of thing that music like "America" makes me want to do. And surely Dave Arch could do a version of La Virgen de la Macarena (The bullfighter's Hymn). How damatic a paso could you make out of this. Play it loud, arch the spine and let that pesky bull loose:
