Don't know about that Sid, but this is what the song was all about: Quote: "She said, "I just have to be by myself for a while to do what I want to do. It's good to be alone sometimes. Look, Steven [Stevens' given name] wrote that song when I left for New York. I left for a month, it wasn't the end of the world was it? But he wrote this whole song about 'Lady D'Arbanville, why do you sleep so still.' It's about me dead. So while I was in New York, for him it was like I was lying in a coffin... he wrote that because he missed me, because he was down... It's a sad song."[6] D'Arbanville continues, "I cried when I heard it, because that's when I knew it was over for good."[3]
I've always loved the song. The music is mixture of slow madrigal style and a running rhythm with percussion on his guitar that he did with Alun Davies. Please, B.B.C. let the pros do these haunting songs, My Lady D' Arbanville and She Moved through the Fair as rumbas.....please...

Wouldn't hold your breath Tango
I was messing about on youtube and found one or two more tunes with spooky themes, like shadows, cannibals, chains, and immortals. I remember Darren doing a good Tango to Maneater years ago. Might go back and see if I can find a few more.
Tango - In The Shadows (The Rasmus)

Rhumba - My Immortal (Evanescence)

Rhumba - Chain Of Fools (The Commitments Cover)

Rhumba - Cry To Me (Solomon Burke)

Quickstep - The Spider (Swingtime)

Cha-cha - Witch Queen of New Orleans (Redbone)

(not spooky, but I like them)
Samba - Baila Baila

Salsa - Cubana (Mojito Club)

I like how this is smooth, and the armography just flows nicely instead of the frantic windmill origami of some of our Strictly salsa’s

The film Artists and Models came out in 1955. I thought Inamorata was the most romantic song on the planet. I was 16.

Re: You are musical director for one week......
Oh dear. Now I'm going to upset Peter lovers big-time now. I just "accidentally" heard a couple of clips from his new "swing album" and realised why he and I are different (apart from the fact that he's young, a "celebrity" and very rich of course). The main difference is that I absolutely cannot sing and admit it to the world. For that reason I admire those who really could/can. When I hear classics like "Fly me to the moon, Come Fly with me" etc, being murdered by this er,"young gentleman" I want to attack something, crush grapes, do flying karate kicks at Russell Brand manequins etc. For now I just covered my ears and waited till the agony ended. It was awful, nasal, whiney and so upsetting that I was actually frothing at the mouth.....

Oh it's awful! I heard him on Radio 2 a couple of weeks ago singing live. It was truly awful. No judge would have turned in The Voice (he wouldn't have go that far in the auditioning process in any case), and he wouldn't have been quite awful enough to get through to the televised x factor auditions as a chap who is entertaining for his sheer dreadfulness. He was warbly and out of tune. Really lacking in singing talent.
He really isn't the nice Pete he tries to come across as on TV - there is a lot underneath the surface which is a bit unlovely. He is also a little lacking in the full complement of brain cells - which Clauds seems to have cottoned on to and gently and surrepticiously makes jokes at his expense about - implied he was a plank on last night's show..

Apologies is anyone's already posted this link - you may recognise some of these? (if you turn subtitles on at the youtube settings then it reveals the films)
Enjoy!

Just spent a pleasant hour looking back through some A.Tango clips from youtube.
Marcela Duran & Carlos Gavito dance 'Forever Tango' - A Evaristo Carriego
https://youtu.be/v8nSaydD3s8
Don't know who the dancers are but the singer of 'Tango Mi Amor' is the fabulous Lara Fabian

Meanwhile, back in fantasy land (cos it'll never happen in reality), the Rat Pack Week emerges....Four records each of the three amigos:
Sammy Davies: In a Persian Market Place, April in Paris, Me and my shadow, Begin the Beguine.....
Frank Sinatra: Summer Wind, The Tender Trap, Three Coins in a Fountain, Softly as I leave you (not as good as Matt Monroe's but)
Dean Martin. That's Amore, Standing on a corner (watching all the girls go by) Inamorata, Sway....
....and An evening in Rome, Return to Me, You belong to me, Volare and.......ad infinitum. Come to think of it, a Dean Martin week would do very nicely Mr Director....
Strike up the band Maestro....let it rip....

Rita dances with such joy. Loved it.
Don't you think in these clips of Sophia Loren she looks a bit like Flavia?

Why give Ed Balls such a silly song for The American Smooth .. The way to Amarillo is not a good option for him .. tragic choice.

Re: You are musical director for one week......
A new film coming out that I am very excited about.
There are two songs in there released thus far and both songs can be used for Strictly (in this film there are some ballroom dancing between the leads):
Emma Stone's song Audition, a very emotive Waltz (maybe Danny and Oti or Louise and Kevin can be playing the 'roles' that Emma and Ryan played in the film): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBUXcNTjviI
Ryan Gosling's song City of Stars, definitely a more leisurely Singing in the Rain styled Foxtrot or American Smooth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=je0aAf2f8XQ

I love both of those CD. Heartening to see some modern music compositions that can fit traditional dances

Damian Chazelle is one musical person who wrote and directed Whiplash. This film (which he wrote and directed as well) he's trying to capture the old-school Hollywood Fred and Ginger feel and using modern actors that are relatable. Emma Stone was in musicals before this film, while Ryan tried to learn how to play piano and by the end of his four-month intense practice, he played all his jazz He is. And we obey him. in the film. He still can't sing to save his life, but it's emotive and pleasant, like a 'normal' person singing to his beloved. I can't wait to see this film! Apparently they say it might be an Oscar bait, but in a good way...
