A definite VW... I think I have said elsewhere that whenever I hear a song playing, anywhere and everywhere, I instantly see twirling or kicking or swaying or hipping, depending on the tune. As Muave said upthread, I see the choreography in my head....
On the subject of the above video, is it me, or does Kylie look a bit unlike herself? Can't put my finger on it but.... maybe some work too far?

Ref the "Caravans" theme, I'm sure pretty sure I could imagine a very gripping Rumba done to it. Scheherazade desert setting and done barefoot style. How could it fail?
Grab a Bar of Turkish Delight, quaff a glass of Spanish cream sherry and sit back to let your imagination loose.

Some great dancing in that musical. Yes, that would be a good Charleston choice I think plus the chimney sweep song maybe?

I've been doing a bit of mum-dancing myself to this track since Friday- don't think it matches any dance we've heard of! I'll call it the fans' choicediamondsandpearls wrote:I cannot stop quickstepping round the kitchen to this!

I'll admit they've never been the same since Jason Orange left
The good news is that he (Jason) bought a place about a mile from where I am currently living (for the winter - hence my written vocalism this evening - I am in the presence of wall to wall wifi - yay!!) and has been seen on more than one occasion having dinner at a local hotel, and asked my friend who was in the queue for ice cream at the cafe across the road to get him an ice cream so that he didn;t have to lose his table (he gave him the money - obvs...). I tried to espy him last winter but, alas, he stayed in hiding (or maybe he only appears in the summer...)
Going back to the song - it's not my favourite, but I am currently suffering from Choreographitis whereby the minute I hear a song a fully finished routine danced by pros appears before my eyes... And this song is infectious (like a cold), so I find myself trying to follow an invisible pro and perform the steps myself....

Sorry not sorry!! Alongside a host of others from the modfather himself Mr Paul Weller, to Adele and Ed Sheeran via the Bee Gees and George Michael, they are among my all time faves. Having a trumpeter as a son means I have also enjoyed a whole lot of brass band and classical music over the years!
I think you would describe my taste in music as small c catholic
Mr Alls agrees with you though Mr T...he says he would rather eat his own eyeballs than listen to Mr Barlow et al

Re: You are musical director for one week......
I have to admit I am far more old school when it comes to seeing musical potential for Strictly Dances. How about this for a Jive:-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQfidTOTsLo
Viennese Waltz:-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yQKDj_V4Gk
Samba perhaps:-

Viennese Waltz:-

Samba perhaps:-

Well, if you are looking for old school for the jive, you can't beat the original, and the best (not only influencing Elvis but also the Beatles and countless others):

That Tavares song is a cracker! And yes, totally Samba-tastic (just been doing Samba rolls around my room to it.... )
Like Allsewn my musical taste is incredibly eclectic and includes the very old (Louis Armstrong in the 20s and 30s anybody?) to the very new - this very current one also has me doing some sort of Latin Fusion impression (I can't decide whether I am Salsa-ing or Chax3-ing, and it doesn't matter anyway as I am doing neither in a fashion that Our Shirl would recognise....!):

Well Shirl only seems to recognise what Joe does.

And C raig also - he was waxing lyrical about him on Friday's ITT. If he had mentioned one or two of the others as well it would have been fine, but he singled Joe out as the preson who had impressed him the most with his improvement (which is rubbish, as he was held up as surprisingly amazing at Week 1 - not to say he hasn;t improved, but he hasn't had a massive breakthrough, or consistently the high standards of Stacey who is also a non-dancer). Grrrr!

I totally agree. I am a non-conformist. When the judges are clearly overly gushing over a dancer and overly derogatory to others then it turns me right off that dancer they gush over. It is like teachers pets - you just could not abide them. Now Joe, at the start, I never knew too much about him and had an open mind about how I would take to him but the gushing judge remarks and Shirley's molestations are a big turn-off.

The pros used this one week. I remember it was the first time I noticed Flavia and Vincent dancing togetherCaledonianCraig wrote:Samba perhaps:-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Tk9yBxj4xw

Oh, whatever happened to the Sleeve Wafts(TM) ? I miss them! And the dress was super-princessy, instead of a bit princessy... We need to get back to more glamour!

Glamour - yes, sparkles - yes, silks & satins - yes. Sleeve Wafts - no, no, and thrice no ( sounding like Frankie Howard now) but I absolutely hated those things. Maybe in a waltz or V.Waltz would be ok, but at one point they were being used for most of the dances and getting caught in lifts and armography etc.diamondsandpearls wrote:Oh, whatever happened to the Sleeve Wafts(TM) ? No Waltz or VW should be danced without sleeve wafts, but I agree that they are out of place in anything else. Imagine a sleeve waft in a Salsa...

Thank you Diamonds, I really enjoyed watching all those clips.
I'll confess I've never seen any of the films they come from, I tend to avoid old films and also musicals. Though I liked the look of that last clip from It's a wonderful life, may try to find a copy of it to watch.

Excellent choices D&P, I have the D.V.D'S of Dirty Dancing, Dirty Dancing 2 (Cuba), Strictly Ballroom (I also mentioned "Quizas" which Doris recored as "Perhaps"), "Take the Lead", "Shall we Dance" and quite a few others ....No fool like an old fool.

Gald you enjoyed them Jingle. There are many people I know who watch It's Wonderful Life every Christmas as it is a truly lovely, feel-good film - beware though, it may bring a tear to your eye (in a happy way...) The clip is from a hand-coloured re-mastered version - the original is black and white.
I grew up watching old black and white films - musical and non-musical and I still love them. The MGM musicals of the 40s and 50s were a golden age where money was no object for big production n umbers and stars at the top of their game (other studios did a few too). I would strongly recommend Singing in the Rain (the second AS I suggested came from that) which not only has Gene Kelly but also Donald O'connor who could also dance like a genius. The song and dance He is. And we obey him. come thick and fast and each one is innovative and wonderful. And though I didn't include a clip, I would also recommend On The Town for the same reason (and it has Gene Kelly, Vera Ellen, Ann Miller (all amazing dancers) and Frank Sinatra) and White Christmas (Danny Kaye and Vera Ellen for the great dancing and Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney for great voices). I will leave it there for now so I don't overload - but I have a fair few up my sleeve - we haven't even touched Fred Astaire and Judy Garland!
