I've watched it all and it's not actually the broadcast version. There is a comment below the video from a lady who says pretty much what you said - that they practised for ages and then didn;t make the cut - but that this version shows those people. They were the group doing the Tango... I am guessing (from your name!) that you may have been in the Tango group - in which case you may even see yourself! (I confess I was trying to guess which of them might be you!)
Fraid not D & P. Till the final night we ( the geriatric jivers) didn't even know about the tango group (apparently there was a big fall-out between the guy running it and Jolly Jack and that's why it didn't get shown on the final video.) I was in the jive group and apparently not in camera, at least not in the T.V version from the Palais. I was in the very opening sequence on Part One, on Blackpool North Pier wearing a red anorak, and in an inside shot looking pretty pxxssed off when the maestro announced he was changing the music from Glen Miller to "The Baseballs". I might just be being paranoid, but I got the feeling the "certain gentleman" didn't particularly like me. Shame, I'm lovely really. History now anyway....Would I do it again? In retrospect, Not a chance......

You might want to just take a squiz at the beginning then Tango... It's dancers jiving to In the Mood by Glen Miller. I think the video I posted is of someone filming the making of the programme - thus it has a lot of stuff that didn't go in the programme. In any case, it's worth a look to see if you can see any of your mates jiving around...

I kow them all D & P, but I'm nowhere amongst them. The two "complimentary" D.V.D's we were sent after the show don't even work; they just stop dead part way through. A real xxxx up all round. Ah, well, on with the motley.

Re: SCD 2019 Weekly Dance & Music Choices
Interesting choices there.
Emma B and a Rumba. Hmm it may suit her as it is not so much a dance you need to attack but you have to be expressive which has also been a problem for her. Mike has landed a dance that should suit him down to the ground with decent music too which was done to great effect a few years back in a classic Strictly dance. It will be interesting to see how Emma W handles a Samba and Saffron with a Salsa. It may prove to be tricky for them and Chris's Contemporary will need to see an improvement for him but it may help that its a blank canvas type of dance.
It could be very interesting to see who ends up in the bottom two.

I think I've given up worrying B4p. I don't like any of them for dancing, not a one.. Now if "Woman in Love" had been a driving, dynamic tango to the Frankie Laine version, (different song) you would have been talking....Dance of the night hands down....

Great voice (my dad had most of his records) and yes, what a great 'blue Tango' vibe.TANGOLERO wrote:Now if "Woman in Love" had been a driving, dynamic tango to the Frankie Laine version, (different song) you would have been talking....Dance of the night hands down....

Even though Marlon Brando is not much of a singer, I really love his version of that song - there is a very sweet, tender, swoony feel to it. Dance whatever dance you are moved to dance to it! (I'm probably doing an AS with Gorka...)

Definitely think Emma W is going to be in trouble. It's a Samba, and to a tricky not-Samba tune... (My aged mother - who has dementia -loves this song and 'ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh ooh-oo's away at the relevant moments and then giggles, very pleased with herself )

Dunno about anybody else, but I'm hearing carnival dance and Samba for that Demi Levato song, rather than Salsa. Those drums...
No doubt we will get another Salchamba - which Saffy will execute rather well

Personal choices D & P, but I love the big band version of Frankie's, always have. Very first record I ever bought was his "Cool Water" and I got in lumber (my dad sent me out to buy a Josef Locke record and (to my eternal shame) I lied and said they hadn't got it.. ) I can clearly remember my favourite records back then were Black Gold,( Blowing Wild) Gandy Dancers Ball and Dean Martin's "Inamorata" , happy days..

Yes I fear that too...………….hope it doesn't happen - I've supported Emma W from day one and she has improved so much but I agree she will struggle with the Samba and the track is awful - can't see much Samba in that. Emma B - as CC says - she could go either way but I wish they'd given them more of a latino track - although I can hear a rhumba in this one. I just want these girls to do better!!!! and not go the way of Catherine - sob!
Overall not a bad choice I feel - so I'm with B4P. The two I don't like are Emma W's samba track and Kelvin and Oti's Viennese Waltz - awful dirge -surely they will speed up the tempo otherwise they'll be whirling round in slow motion.
Whilst I'm usually a purist for paso music I'm a huge Queen fan and I actually think this track could make a good one. Michelle and Gio have done some great stuff so far so looking forward to see what they will do with this one.
Good music for Amy and Karim's quick step but another dance that he will deliver at one hundred miles per hour!!!! Which is of course how it should be delivered but no chance for him to be challenged with a different sort of mood dance - he has really managed to dodge the slower ones so far.
Mike and Katya have lucked out - but 'Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines' will always belong to Pasha and Kimberley for me! I've no doubt Chris and Karen will also be able to produce a good routine with their track choice.
'Ain't no Mountain High Enough' great toon but I hear a cha cha in this - not a smooth American Smooth - but definitely 'feel good' music for Alex (and hopefully Neill!)
Lastly - whilst I'm not a Manilow fan I really love the song - classic waltz with a lovely 3-3 timing and so so hope that Will makes the show and will be able to dance it...………………. (need a 'fingers crossed' emoji

Re: SCD 2019 Weekly Dance & Music Choices
I thought that Mr Pinstripe song sounded like it might also make a Charleston.
I like a quickstep but there's still other professionals that have managed to put some hesitation or slow steps in there to break things up. Light and shade has been shouted almost every week and it really would make all the difference to the quality of his dances. At the moment Karim's speed is at the expense of technique for me, although I appreciate he can only dance what he is given.

Re: SCD 2019 Weekly Dance and Music Choices
Agreed B4P - they can all only dance to what they are given and one of the greatest mysteries of SCD for me, will always be how that decision is precisely reached and who has influence in the choices.
Karim certainly seems to have had a lot of the fast and furious dances 'up front' in the early part of the contest - the ballroom that he has done (or is going to do) is also of the faster variety - Tango, Quick Step etc - not sure if they have done Charleston yet (that must be next if not!). It seems that he will have a lot of the more 'smoother' and/or slower dances to do - waltz, rhumba, American Smooth - so he had better crack it soon. I think all the ingredients are there for him to do a cracking Argentine Tango if he makes it to the latter stages - but hopefully Amy can teach him how to really dance it - and hopefully he will start to learn and step out of his dancing comfort zone - then for me he will have 'come of age' as a dancer.

Re: SCD 2019 Weekly Dance & Music Choices
Nice to hear a bit of Rodrigo y Gabriela again. I've got that album. Not sure it's strong enough for a Paso, but Katya can usually think outside the box.
Michelle & Gio have got great music again. I wonder if they're doing a Foxtrot based AS?
Looking forward to seeing Emma's theatre/jazz dance to the Pussy Cat Dolls. I wonder if it will be the same choreographer that Faye and Gio had for their jazz dance last year?

I also have the Roderigo y Gabriela "Tamacun" album B4p. My daughter bought it for me when it came out (2006, how time flies), love it. I bought the Gotan Project album, Lunatico, around the same time. Great music.B4p wrote:Nice to hear a bit of Rodrigo y Gabriela again. I've got that album. RE: SCD 2019 Weekly dances and Music choices
I think the music is much improved this week - some really good tracks. I love the Etta James one (I danced in a pantomime to this many moons ago - it was a comedy routine we were dressed as cleaners!). Looking forward to A nton and Emma's routine - the training clips looked good on ITT tonight. What strikes me is that there is only 8 couples left! - we always arrive at this point and I wonder where all the time has gone.

Re: SCD 2019 Weekly Music and Dance Choices
Nice to see a waltz appearing this week - haven't seen many of them yet this season. We've had the usual plethora of Charlestons and quite a bit of latin it seems (probably my imagination) but I've heard more than few of the contestants say on ITT that they are enjoying learning the ballroom this year - so hopefully more to come as we haven't seen many American Smooths either. with Blackpool coming up soon I always think that the American Smooth is a great dance for there. I like to see the 'big' dances at Blackpool - the ones that travel round the floor like the Viennese Waltz, Samba and Paso - but we've seen a fair few of these already? I 've noticed in the last few years that they seem to bring out the first Argentine Tango in Blackpool - so wrong in that setting in my opinion.

Re: SCD 2019 Weekly Dance & Music Choices
I think Alex has drawn the music short straw. Hopefully Neil will be able to pull something out of the bag otherwise she might be on shaky ground trying to paso to that.
Emma and Saffron are both in hold so should be fairly safe.
Chris has a good track, but is the weakest dancer left. Then again he's got a huge fan base.
Can't wait to see what Gio's cooking up.
I can't see why a cover of Jailhouse Rock has been used. It doesn't add anything different to the original, and the band will put their own spin on it anyway.
