Re: New Couples 2013
I won't get to see Strictly live this week unfortunately, due to that Christmas meal galivante with family. It won't be a late one though so I'll still see the recording when we get in. See Abby has got AS where Aljaz can just twirl her around like a cape for most of it. Hope L en's watching for some basics in her Samba too but I've got a nasty feeling it'll be all skimpy costume and ass wiggling. Only paso music I've really liked outside of Spanish stuff was, amazingly for me, The Black Pearl from Pirates of the Carribean.. Mind you, it was done by pros on a youtube clip somewhere, posted by someone, maybe Hatlady? It was very good indeed.

Re:New Couples 2013
I really like most of the music choices for this week - but I do feel that 'Because the Night' would be more suitable for a Tango. 'Sweet Caroline' is a great crowd pleaser and gets me thinking of swaying, singalong, and Karaoke but not particularly an 'American Smooth'! Very exciting about Sophie and B rendan's track - hopefully it will be memorable.

Never mind Sax, you won't be alone. Actually watching Strictly later on record will be far better than most of the drivel they show on Saturdays. I usually watch a D.V.D instead, although sixty-nine watches of Dirty Dancing and forty-seven of Pride and Prejudice does need a break occasionally.

Ha,ha. It's the Ehle/Firth version I mean Sax. I got the DVD's when they first came out. I also watched Last of the Mohicans only last week and even did a bit of painting from the poster. Here it is, just for you

No, never have done Sax. One or two people have said I should but I've never tried.

Re: New Couples 2013
Thanks B4
I think Natalie, Abbey and Susanna have all selected fantastic Showdance songs and I expect good routines from them. In particular, I reckon Kev & Sus will be in their element with Your Song - I'm picturing their emotional Waltz with lots of spectacular lifts thrown in. They do have a tendency to over-perform sometimes (which isn't necessarily to my taste) but I think the viewers will love it. Sophie & Brendan choosing an uptempo Whitney Houston party track is a disappointing choice - their VW will have to be very, very good to get through.

Re: Mew Couples 2013
Yes I agree the others have somewhat iconic songs but Sid - let's wait and see what S+B come up on the floor in the Showdance - fingers crossed we might be surprised. B rendan is on such sizzling form - I'm sure he wouldn't give her something that didn't suit her - I wonder whether it will be a clever meld of a few different dances. Also the idea of a track can feel good in advance but not quite deliver on the night- don't forget that we were in raptures over 'Bohemian Rhapsody' last year but it didn't quite come off on the floor. I think Susanna has the best combination of music overall though.

Don't remind me mauve! Poor Dani, totally bombed on the night; that Showdance was beyond her
Not sure if you've seen these bits of training: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01nq7jh << judging from that, there seems to be a blend of Cha Cha (gulp!) and Salsa in there. But you're right, Sophie's more confident now, and has started to up her performance level. Hopefully the judges will comment on the difference between her Cha Cha steps now and then. Plus, with any luck, the lifts will be a pleasing diversion if the stuff on the floor's a bit pants!

Re: New Couples 2013
I remember Danni & V.incents Bohemian showdance It does prove thou for the couples the showdance maketh or breaketh the Glitterball Trophy. In the News Abbey advises her body's failing her,Sophie has a knee injury & Suzanna in tears & Natalie has burns from the pole! Why a pole dance in the final? Im not awestruck by the idea. Natalie has advised its not going to be tacky but artistic-hoping so.
Ive loved Aljaz & Kevin, warmed to Iveta more,Anya growing to like not sure about Janette. So the newbies have made their mark two in the final!

Re: New Couples 2013
Just watched Natalie's dances again......she never got the marks, nice comments but no marks......Eye contact between Artem and Natalie? It has been there all along. There has always been a connection. She was so good from the beginning, that like C.raig everyone has been picky, no magic, not memorable etc etc. And she has improved. Me, I hope Sophie wins but, I think Natalie and Abbey joint second and Susanna last.

I wonder if 'the pole' might be something like a lamppost prop? Artem's used one before with Karasaxonsiren wrote:In the News Abbey advises her body's failing her,Sophie has a knee injury & Suzanna in tears & Natalie has burns from the pole! Why a pole dance in the final?

Re: New Couples 2013
On ITT tonight they were using canes, wonder if it's those.
I was wondering if they were going to do a Tom Chambers type of dance after seeing the canes, must admit I did enjoy his showdance and I can see it working for them .

Re: New Couples 2013
The top hat and cane routine is old Broadway. Always works well but I sure hope the mentioned pole isn't a sleazy touch amongst what I'm sure will be class. A Fred and Ginger style routine using the steps is my bet.

From the Christmas Special SCD
I wanted to say how fabulous I thought Elaine Paige was. Such style, pizazz and a joy to watch.
